Your monthly contribution of RM50 is not given to the child directly as pocket money. In a poor community, an extra allowance does not help in the long term as there is little to buy. Direct monetary aid would make the child and his family dependant on receiving external aid. Instead, your contribution is pooled together with other sponsors’ to implement long-term, community-wide changes that help break the vicious cycle of poverty. The beauty of child sponsorship is that you are making a real difference in a child's life. RELATED QUESTIONS: How does my sponsorship help my sponsored child? How much of my contribution reaches the child? World Vision Malaysia has pledged not to use more than 20% of all donated funds on administrative and overhead costs. We have been keeping it below 20%. In 2008, our administrative cost was 16%.
Administrative costs include the costs of sending receipts, updates and newsletters to sponsors, and running campaigns to raise awareness/funds. You can help us reduce such costs by opting for electronic mails and paying via credit cards. Download our latest Annual Report
How does World Vision account for the funds it receives? We are audited annually by an independent external accounting firm. Annual reports are sent to all sponsors.
We also send sponsors "Annual Progress Reports" with a current photo of their sponsored child, updating them on his/her progress. Each year, we organise sponsors visits to different projects. This way, sponsors can see for themselves how their funds are being used to change lives.
