30-Hour Famine 2020

Break the Limits! for 30-Hour Famine 2020. Mongolian children running in the background.

World Vision Malaysia's 30-Hour Famine is a global youth movement against hunger and poverty. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 30-Hour Famine: Home Edition was introduced in 2020. Participants will follow a 30-hour programme designed to help them learn more about global issues from the comfort of their own home. A child-friendly version, the 8-Hour Kidz Famine (an 8-hour programme) is also available for children aged 12 and below. Our 30-Hour Famine ambassador this year is Eric Chou (周兴哲).

World Vision Interventions and Beneficiaries

The funds raised through the 30-Hour Famine 2020 will support World Vision's community development work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, China, India, Mongolia, Myanmar and Vietnam, providing children and families with livelihood, clean water and sanitation assistance. This includes:

  • Strengthening knowledge and awareness of safe water storage
  • Improving access to safe drinking water
  • Increasing access to toilets and sanitation facilities
  • Improving access to livelihood opportunities for poor households so they can better provide for their children
  • Strengthening the skills and knowledge of farmers and households
  • Establishing the Disaster Risk Response plans of communities and schools

In Malaysia

Funds will also be channelled towards local beneficiaries, transforming the lives of children in Malaysia through:

  • Health & nutrition, education, livelihood and child protection projects in Mukim Tulid and Tatalaan, Sabah (World Vision’s Malaysia Assistance Fund)
  • Improving Youth Livelihoods through Vocational Training & Employability (Fugee School)
  • Young Urban Farmers Enterprise (Good Shepherd Services)
