Celebrating Chinese New Year

This Chinese New Year, in 2019, instead of giving a child a fish, teach a child how to fish. Nian Nian You Yu

Give children brighter futures with an Angpow for Education!

Every Chinese New Year, it is customary for families to gather excitedly around a reunion dinner table.

But for families living in poverty, all they have on most days, including Chinese New Year, is rice and some vegetables. The poverty which keeps millions hungry is often caused by a lack of education, which limits a child’s future and traps them in the vicious cycle of poverty.

Teaching children to ‘fish’!

This year, our Chinese New Year theme is ‘Nián Nián Yǒu Yú’, a phrase which means having abundance every year. The Chinese character ‘Yú’ (余) also sounds like ‘Fish’ (鱼), which reminds us of this saying:

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

How true that is about the power of Education! By giving children in poor communities the opportunity to learn, we equip them with knowledge and skills that empower them to break free from the cycle of poverty.

This Chinese New Year, why not give an ‘Angpow’ towards World Vision’s Education Fund, allowing children to get a quality education and opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. Or you could sponsor a child from RM65 a month! Through sustainable community development, your sponsorship will bring children education and the basic necessities of life – helping them to find fullness of life.
