Making a Difference Anytime, Anywhere

Even a pandemic can’t stop our drive to help others! Large gatherings may not be possible for the foreseeable future, but with a little ingenuity, we can still give everyday Malaysians platforms to speak out and raise funds for vulnerable children and families.

Here is a rundown of two recent World Vision events that demonstrate how you can make a difference, even in your own home!

World Vision #RunForChildren Virtual Run

Between 3 and 19 July 2020, nearly 1,700 Malaysians participated in the World Vision #RunForChildren Virtual Run, running (or walking) 42 minutes in support of the 42 child rights in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

A virtual run is a run that can be completed any day, time and place. While we couldn’t all hit the streets of Kuala Lumpur as originally planned, our intrepid runners still ran in their neighbourhoods and local parks, working up a sweat while advocating for the rights of the child on their runner’s bib.

From families to seasoned runners alike, we’re glad that so many came out to make a stand for children!

30-Hour Famine: Home Edition

Going from DIY Camps to camping in the Living Room, the 30-Hour Famine broke with convention in 2020 to give Famine Fighters a unique experience.

The 30-Hour Famine: Home Edition allowed participants to walk in the shoes of vulnerable people from our focus country Mongolia. Over 30 hours, Famine Fighters across Malaysia prepared meals on an RM20 budget, built makeshift shelters to sleep in, crafted mini Mongolian gers and more. All the while, they learned about the issues of poverty and hunger that Mongolia’s children and families face.

The 30-Hour Famine was capped off with our Online Countdown, featuring performances by our Supporting Celebrities and 2020 Famine Ambassador Eric Chou.

In total, 3,440 people said “I’m In!” to the 30-Hour Famine challenge, raising RM332,960.08 for children and communities in Democratic Republic of Congo, China, India, Mongolia, Myanmar and Vietnam, as well as beneficiaries in Malaysia. Thanks to our Famine Fighters, children can overcome the challenges of poverty and Break The Limits!
