“Every child is our child – there’s no yours or mine.”
Every child deserves to be loved and cared for. In August 2024, a group of our child sponsors visited the Baganuur community in Mongolia, where they met their sponsored children and saw firsthand how their contributions have benefitted the children, their families, and the entire community. 5 Common Questions from Child Sponsors
At World Vision, we often receive questions about our Child Sponsorship Programme. Here are five of the most frequently asked questions:
How does my sponsorship help my sponsored child? Do they receive the funds directly?
Contributions are not given directly to your sponsored child and their family. Instead, we pool all sponsorship contributions and invest them in long-term community development programmes, including health and nutrition, education, and clean water and sanitation. Through this, you help bring real and lasting change – not just for your sponsored child, but their family and community too, empowering them to build a self-sufficient future.
How long does my sponsorship last?
The duration of your sponsorship is completely up to you. Each programme varies in length, typically lasting 10 to 15 years. A child may remain sponsored until they turn 21. We hope you’ll continue this journey with us and your sponsored child until the work in their community is complete so that you can witness the transformation your support has made possible.
How can I learn more about my sponsored child?
You can stay updated on your sponsored child’s progress through the My World Vision portal, where we regularly share the latest news and videos from their community. You are also encouraged to write letters or send small gifts to your sponsored child. For more details, please refer to the Sponsors’ Guide.
Can I meet my sponsored child?
Yes! You can join one of our Sponsors’ Visits to travel to your sponsored child’s community. These visits allow you to learn more about the development programmes taking place and see firsthand how your support is making a difference. During these trips, we also arrange gatherings where sponsors can meet their sponsored child and their family.
How do I know my sponsorship contributions are being used properly?
Our accounts are audited by an external accounting firm and are available to sponsors on request. We also provide annual reviews to all sponsors, sharing how contributions are used, programme data and outcomes, and inspiring success stories. You can also download our past annual reviews.
We are deeply grateful for the kindness of our child sponsors. With continued support and more people joining this cause, we can create a ripple effect of hope and lasting change for the vulnerable.
