Violence against children takes many forms and occurs in any setting: in a child's home, community, school and online.
Young boys are often forced into dangerous hard labour, while young girls face sexual assault, domestic abuse, female genital mutilation and child marriage. This threatens the survival, health and education of children. It erodes a country’s human and social capital, and tears at the fabric of society.
The number of children involved in child labour rose to 160 million at the beginning of 2020.1
Many vulnerable children go to school hungry, sick or exhausted from work or household chores to learn effectively.
129 million girls around the world are out of school due to poverty, child marriage, and gender-based violence, among many other reasons.3
Keeping children safe and protected actively contributes to breaking the cycle of violence, exploitation, and neglect, thus allowing them to thrive and grow in a safe and secure environment.
Aid the most vulnerable children to survive, recover and build a future.
Empower children with skills and knowledge on their rights, and how to protect themselves and each other.
Strengthen families and caregivers to be the first line of protection for children.
Facilitate communities with building a safety net to protect children, prevent harm, and ensure those who are harmed get the help they need to recover.
When you sponsor a child, your contribution goes beyond keeping them safe; it provides them with education, clean water, nutritious food, and sustainable livelihood for their family – all of which form the building blocks of a brighter future.
