EMERGENCY APPEAL

A flash flood tore through northern Nepal on 26 August, killing over 1,000 people, and affecting more than 17,000 children.

The flood has destroyed homes and critical infrastructure, displaced families and left communities in urgent need of food, shelter and essential support.

WORLD VISION IS RESPONDING

World Vision Nepal is mobilising a 90-day emergency response and raising US$4 million (approximately RM16 million) to provide urgent relief and early recovery support for affected children and families:

Emergency food assistance for families facing immediate hunger

Shelter kits for families whose homes are destroyed or damaged

Hygiene kits, including support for pregnant and lactating women

Child protection support for children and families facing displacement and risk

As communities begin to recover, the response will extend to livelihoods and education, helping children return to school and families rebuild.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On 26 August, a flash flood surged into Nepal through the Bhote Koshi River, devastating communities in Rasuwa and Nuwakot before moving downstream.

Homes, roads and bridges have been destroyed or severely damaged. Entire communities are cut off from food, shelter and clean water. Search and rescue teams are still working through the wreckage.

The death toll has passed 1,000, with over 4,000 people still unaccounted for. As the scale of the disaster continues to emerge, more than 20,000 households may need food assistance.

UNICEF estimates more than 17,000 children have been affected, facing displacement, hunger, interrupted schooling and protection risks.
